The garden maintenance is one of the usual tasks to which you are committed as a tenant. It includes mowing the grass, removing weeds, and the cutting of smaller hedges and bushes and removing the snow from the driveway. The cutting of trees requires expertise; therefore it belongs to the maintenance obligations of the landlord. Most of the tenant's obligations regarding the yard are explained in the contract. The written consent of the landlord is requested in case the tenant wants to make permanent changes to the garden (vegetable patches or habitats). To set up play equipments, you do not need the landlord's consent, these are indeed amongst the usual rights with respect to the use of a garden. The landlord may require, however, that the objects should be moved from time to time to maintain the lawn or to prevent the formation of brown spots in the lawn.
